What we Specialize In

So how does it work?

Most often we see a variety of yoga classes and they are a supplementation for an existing fitness program. However, the main objective of yoga is not necessarily fitness or even weight loss, but it is to produce tranquility in the body and mind. This is profoundly important for anyone with any autoimmune disorder, as multiple studies show the link between stress and auto immune.

Thankfully, yoga has a variety of techniques to appease the emotional brain which sends adrenaline and releases cortisol through out the body. For example, every time we are holding a posture for a certain period, our cognitive brain gets activated and focuses on balance and concentration. Then when we are bending forward during our sun salutations, relaxation signals are being sent to the brain through the movement of the neck.

So simply bending forward will trigger the cognitive brain and relaxation responses at the same time. Keeping a better connection between the two will certainly help to control emotions and will assist with the cultivation of a better stress response. Of course, there are other practices that also help us to address our emotions, this is just a quick summary. Yogis knew a long time before modern scientists and western medicine that the endocrine system (which the thyroid is a part of) is affected by the emotions of the mind. A variety of mental emotions such as anger, sorrow, hatred, and love may bring the heart rate and blood pressure up, while yoga through exercise will allow us to bring all those emotions under control.

Which in return reduces stress, inflammation, and increases immunity and brings inner peace. In addition, any amount of chronic stress may disrupt the function of the thyroid and lead to worsening of symptoms. That is why I am on a mission to share my personal experiences of supplementing my thyroid healing with yoga asanas, pranayama, and meditation.

Together we will create an individualized asana practice for each of you, we will also develop self-awareness and stress relief practices, which in return will support the emotional part of the thyroid healing. We will do all of this slowly, so that we can build up stamina and follow a routine. As a Graves Disease warrior, I know how hard it could be when you have zero energy and feel that your body has reached its physical limits.

Yoga, Ayurveda, and Pranayama are inseparable. Ayurveda is an ancient science that addresses anatomy and physiology and has its own outlook on illness and its own vision of health. According to Ayurveda in the body there are three life forces that are behind all physiological and phsychological functions. They are Pitta, Khapha and Vatta and it is important to keep them in balance if we want to avoid diseases.

Pitta is a fire and responsible for metabolic process, Khapha is a water and responsible for our tissues, and Vatta which is wind, is responsible for the nervous system. Of course, there is more to the Doshas then we can describe in this short summary and each person is truly unique and should be treated as such. But in overall your dominant Dosha will impact your body-mind type and will impact your physical practice.

We will help you identify your Doshic constitution, we will aim to detect any imbalances before they may become a disease, and we will build a healthy routine to balance body and mind. Knowing your doshas and how to balance them will help you get maximum results out of the practice and will help you enjoy the practice itself a little bit more. Have you noticed how some people do not like hot yoga at all?
