One of the values we hold close at Mahad Yoga is practicing community beyond the studio walls. This summer, that value took us out into the heart of Lake Stevens during Aquafest, a long-standing local celebration powered by volunteers and community support.
This year, we were grateful to participate by advertising in the beer garden and donating toward its operation in support of Kiwanis, a volunteer- and donation-based organization that helps make events like this possible. Supporting organizations that give their time and energy to the community feels deeply aligned with who we are.
A Small Way to Invite Connection
Alongside our donation, we added a little bit of fun, inviting festival-goers to snap a photo with our sign in the beer garden for a chance to win a free yoga class or enjoy 50% off an item from our shop. It wasn’t about promotion as much as it was about connection, play, and being part of the moment. It offered a small but meaningful opportunity for people to come across our ad, recognize the studio, and feel connected to Mahad Yoga beyond the studio space.
Volunteering Where It Matters
Adding to the spirit of the event, our instructor Nicole, a Kiwanis member and longtime Lake Stevens resident who grew up in the area, volunteered her time in the beer garden throughout Aquafest. She’s deeply involved in the local community, and we feel lucky to have her as part of Mahad Yoga. If you’re curious to learn more about her work outside the studio, Nicole is also a local real estate agent, and we invite you to check her out here.
Why We Say Yes to These Moments
Events like Aquafest remind us that wellness isn’t only cultivated in studios or classes. It’s built through shared experiences, local traditions, and supporting the people and organizations who make community gatherings possible.
If you’re interested in getting involved with a volunteer-based organization making a real impact locally, we wholeheartedly recommend Kiwanis. Their work supports the Lake Stevens community in meaningful ways, including offering grants and scholarships to graduating seniors from Lake Stevens High School and helping with a wide range of community activities — from holiday events and welcoming Santa to handing out goodies and supporting local traditions throughout the year.
We’re grateful for the work that Kiwanis does and for all the volunteers who make Aquafest happen year after year. We’re also thankful for the opportunity to contribute in a small but meaningful way.
Showing up in any way you can is part of our practice.
With gratitude,
Team Mahad Yoga
